Throughout my life I went through many different situations. Here are 5 songs that I chose to represent my life. My first song would have to be (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2RpXYeawpo), “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars. This song really expresses my feelings towards my best friends. I want to always be there for them and I always want them to be there for me. I’ve had terrible and depressing times in life, yet I always somehow overcome them with help from my friends. They teach me things I would never learn and I teach them things they would never learn. We bond and spend time with each other no matter when or where. All that matters is that we are having a good time with each other. My second song has to be (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X716vbXoz_g), “She Was Mine” by Aj Rafael ft. Jesse Barrera. I chose this song because it is about being in a relationship with someone but being apart from them. I am currently in a relationship but can’t see my other half whenever I want. With that said we are doing fine and we know in our minds the distant is nothing. My next is (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLexgOxsZu0), “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars. This song depicts one of those days that I don’t want to do anything. Some days I don’t care what is going on and just do my own thing. More times than not I just lie at home, doing nothing. My next song is (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ6zr6kCPj8), “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO. I chose this song because I love to go out with my friends and have fun. I can have fun doing anything with my friends. Its fun just to be around them. The final song I chose was (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKxodgpyGec), “Forget You” by Cee Lo Green. I chose this song because sometimes I can get angry and frustrated. All that goes through my mind is “forget you.”

“Transnationalization of Korean Popular Culture and the Rise of 'Pop Nationalism' in Korea,” an article by Jeongsuk Joo that speaks upon the connection between the nationalism incorporated in South Korea’s popular culture. This article was published in the Journal of Popular culture volume 44 issue 3, pages 489 – 504 in 2011. He explains the development of Korean music and cinema and the rising popularity of South Korean television series across Asia.
The increase in Americanization since the 1900s is due to the amount of American soldiers that arose in South Korea. In the 1950s the Americans were radiating their culture and influencing Many Koreans with their Rock ‘N’ Roll. As time passed, Korea’s popular culture identity was found. They started a wave of drama and musical influence that has recently spread to countries throughout Asia and even America. This in turn strengthens the nation’s nationalism because the nation’s popular culture gives every Korean a sense of pride, and makes them happy to be a South Korean. Today, we see an influx of Korean celebrities. This is because more and more average citizens want to find ways to put themselves out into the world. They want to promote themselves to better the nation. This shows how far the nation has come and how it is continually growing its unity.

article analysis
In this article, “Korea Rediscovers It’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Soul,” by Mark Russell, is about South Korea’s rock and roll popularity. This article was published on October 20, 2011, in the New York Times. In the beginning of this article, it tells a story of Shin Joong-hyun, a 73 year old rock and roller, who auditioned for the U.S. Eighth Army and was chosen to play American hits for the soldiers. Over 55 years ago, he began playing for the American troops. He was explained to have played the majority of months all over South Korea. He played songs such as “Guitar Boogie Shuffle,” “40 Miles of Bad Road” and “Rock Around the Clock.” After leaving his stage in the U.S. army bases, he applied himself to the mainstream South Korean music. “He has been called the godfather of South Korean rock.”
The government became stricter in the 1970s on rock music, marijuana and etc. This caused many rock and rollers to lose their jobs. After decades of being mostly forgotten due to this government intervention and the change in music taste, South Korean Rock ‘N’ Roll has become more popular now, “more than ever.”

Our world has increase controversy over climate warming. Scientists have studied the changes in the temperature of Earth. Since the industrial revolution the emissions of greenhouse gasses have risen. This contributes to the idea of global warming because when greenhouse gasses are released the greenhouse effect is strengthened. This causes Earth to become warmer. The sun emits short wave radiation that travels through greenhouse gases without any effect. Earth absorbs the radiation and then reemits long wave radiation rather than short wave radiation back to space. When leaving earth it has to go pass the greenhouse gases to reach space. When it reaches the greenhouse gases the radiation is absorbed and reemitted back down to Earth causing an additional warming effect. Normally this would not be a problem because greenhouse gases are released naturally to form a blanket effect in order to keep Earth warm, but due to abnormal anthropogenic emissions the greenhouse effect is getting out of hand, causing global warming. Usually the greenhouse gases are sifted out through a natural cycle but because of the additional greenhouse emissions there is an accumulation that has occurred. Some say this process of global warming is wrong and that this is no proof showing any trend exists, but it is. I believe that the planet is warming, there has to be a result of releasing these gases into our atmosphere. Now we finally have facts that show it. The global average temperature is rising even if it doesn’t seem like it. There is no significance from observing 1 day or even 1 year. In order to have significant data we must look at the global change in temperature in thousands of years. If we do look throughout the past we can see that there are trends of global warming.

Music Memories #2
For this assignment I interviewed my father, Glenn Chun. He is currently 60 years old. My dad used to listen to a lot of Motown tracks and a lot of radio. He told me that he used to listen to the Supremes, the Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Four Tops, Martha and the Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, and etc. His favorite band of the day was the Temptations. He loves them because of their powerful voices and their beautiful melodies. When he was young attended a Temptations’ concert. He stated that the concert was really good. They incorporated a lot of instruments. He also recalls the power in their voices. He said you can really become captivated by their voices. To this day he loves the Temptations. As of now, my father listens to mainstream music on the radio because both my sister and I listen to it while in the car. He also is exposed to some Korean music because my sister is very open to listening to it with him. He really enjoys listening to Maroon 5. His favorite song right now is Stereo Heart. He also really likes the song called, Sunday Morning, because it has more of an acoustic tone to it.
My music taste has changed a lot over time, yet it still as remained relatively the same. I used to love alternative rock music, and I still do, but then I started to listen to Asian pop music. Then I started listening to more vocal emphasized music. Now I am more into pop rock alternative songs with good vocals. Yet I still have a passion for listening to music that is highly influenced by its instruments.

Music Memories #1
Up until I was in 5th grade I never cared for music. Whenever I listened to music it would always be from the radio. When I moved into the 5th grade my best friend at the time, David, showed me music artist such as, Blink-182, Green Day, and Deep Purple. This is where I began my journey on the road of Alternative Music. I used to repeatedly listen to Blink-182’s “Adam Song” on a CD player my mother gave me. I started to play the Electric guitar, trying to imitate the sound and style that Alternative groups had. I loved when their voices had a nasal sass to them. This is where I started to encourage my friends and family to get a instruments to start practicing with me.
After this stage I moved towards Asian Pop Music. When I was in the 7th grade, I was introduced to this kind of music by some of my friends in my middle school. I fell in love with this music because it made me feel happy and joyful. Although I did not know what any of the songs were about, I still loved them. To this day I still love this kind of music. Sometimes I just need to listen to it to pick me up from a depressing day.
From high school to my current life, I have been adapting to today’s popular music. I used to think that the mainstream music today was terrible and I would never like it. Although I say this, I’ve learned to love this music because, whenever I would go to dances or outings, this kind of music always pops up. Today, I love listening to acoustic sounding artist such as Bruno Mars. I love how his songs are simple but are very nice to listen to. I love the sound of a beautiful acoustic guitar.
